NJ DIRECT, administered by Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey, is the plan of choice for most members, and we hope for you as well. NJ DIRECT provides access to a broad spectrum of health care benefits and programs, as well as our large, national participating physician network. Outlined below are many of the features that make NJ DIRECT the plan to choose.

Referral-free Access – NJ DIRECT members are not required to choose a primary care physician (PCP) and can visit physicians and health care professionals in the Horizon BCBSNJ Managed Care Network in New Jersey and the BlueCard^® PPO network outside of New Jersey without a referral.

Flexibility – NJ DIRECT provides flexibility in choosing medical care – in network or out of network. Members obtain the highest level of benefits and save on out-of-pocket expenses by receiving care from physicians, health care professionals and facilities in the Horizon BCBSNJ Managed Care Network in New Jersey and the BlueCard^® PPO network outside of New Jersey. Out-of-network benefits allow members to obtain services to treat an illness or injury from eligible physicians, hospitals and health care professionals who do not participate with NJ DIRECT. Members may use the out-of-network benefits to maximize choice, but will be responsible for a greater out-of-pocket expense for care received.
